Welcome Speech

Good morning, distinguished guests, esteemed colleagues, speakers, and participants,

It is our great honor and privilege to welcome you to the 24th Annual Meeting of the Infantile Seizure Society (ISS), held in conjunction with the 33rd Malaysian Society of Neurosciences (MSN) Annual Scientific Meeting, the 13th Malaysian Paediatric Neurology Update Meeting, and the 7th BRaINs | BNC Research and Innovations in Neuroscience meeting. This is indeed a momentous occasion where multiple prestigious platforms converge, with a singular goal – to advance the science and care for patients with neurological conditions.

This year’s theme, "Infantile Spasms and Beyond", resonates deeply with the challenges and breakthroughs we face as clinicians, researchers, and healthcare providers. Infantile spasms, remain a complex and life-altering condition. It affects the most vulnerable segment of our population—our infants, is associated with multiple comorbidities and has long lasting consequences. We know that early diagnosis and intervention can significantly alter the trajectory of a child’s development. Therefore, our collective efforts today, throughout this meeting, are vital in pushing the boundaries of knowledge, improving treatment protocols, and ultimately transforming patient outcomes.

Our program this year is designed to foster collaboration, encourage the exchange of ideas, and inspire us all to continue pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the field of neurology.

This is in line with infantile Seizure Society establishment with the aim to promote, on an international level, research into and treatment of seizure disorders and related illnesses in newborns, infants and young children, to contribute to the progress in this field and to facilitate mutual friendship and for sharing of information among members of the Society and throughout the world.

Your presence here is more than a participation; it is a commitment to the spirit of collaboration that defines this conference. Your diverse perspectives will contribute to the richness of discussions and insights. Thank you for joining us on this exciting journey towards a future where collaboration propels the field of neurology to new heights. See you in Kuala Lumpur in July 2025.

Welcome to the 7th BRaINs | BNC Research and Innovations in the ISS-MSN 2025 conference, which is organised in conjunction with other esteemed events.

Our program features the National Brain Bee Challenge, an opportunity for young participants to showcase their neuroscience knowledge with the possibility of representing Malaysia internationally. This initiative highlights our dedication to cultivating future neuroscientists and inspiring curiosity in the field.

The scientific sessions address diverse topics, such as Computational Neuroscience and Neuroinformatics, which explores the groundbreaking impact of data-driven methods on brain research. A one and only forum, The Dark Side of Discovery: Risks and Benefits of New Psychoactive Substances (NPS), addresses the opportunities and pitfalls of emerging substances. Other sessions focus on Neurodegeneration and Neuroprotection, which presents a cutting-edge strategies for treating neurological disorders, while Neuroeducation brings together neuroscience, psychology, and education to enhance our understanding of the learning process.

Additionally, themes such as Neurotheology, which explores the connections between brain science, religion, and spirituality, and Developmental Neuroscience, which focusses on how the brain evolves throughout life. Translational Neuroscience emphasizes the critical role of translating research findings to clinical practice, ensuring tangible benefits from our work.

I strongly encourage you to participate actively, share ideas, and network among peers to maximize time at this conference. Together, we can advance the frontiers of neuroscience by bridging gaps between fundamental research and clinical application to improve our quality of lives.

Thank you for joining us at ISS-MSN 2025, and I look forward to an engaging and productive conference.
